Daniel Grenblad teaching marketing strategy

Teaching Business and Marketing

Teaching is a vital part of my mission. Not only do I enjoy teaching, it is also an important way for me to disseminate marketing knowledge, in addition to writing for publication. Through teaching, the knowledge directly reaches those who will put it into valuable practice.

The methods of delivery I use in teaching include formal lectures and various formats of case discussions. Each has its own merits and I choose format depending on the aim, audience, and topic among other things. Executive Education has participants with years of highly qualified professional experience, many times with a legacy education. Master of Science students have a relatively strong and up to date theoretical framework. Building on the students' existing knowledge and developing new requires different approaches.

The case method is a powerful tool for learning and of special interest to me. Cases can be used in several ways. If you will be participating in a session where a case is used, the role you are expected to play as a student can be quite diverse. Depending on, among other things, if a participant based case pedagogical method is applied. Therefore, should you be unfamiliar with the case method, you are advised to learn more about the specific format that will be used in advance. You will benefit greatly more if you come adequately prepared. The case method means that you as a student is accountable for your own learning and a co-creator of knowledge, rather than consuming knowledge that is passively received. It is truly a challenge for students new to the case learning method (which is not necessarily the same as case texts being used). As a first introduction, I have prepared a short note* about the participant based case method that is available to students at Stockholm School of Economics. Before meeting in class, you are welcome to contact me regarding this or other issues.

Finally, of course it is not only the students who develop during class sessions, so do I. Feedback is invaluable, please do not forget to make your contribution to the course evaluation!
